Pastificio Futuro

Pastificio Futuro has a special connection to Pope Francis and his enduring message of hope and second chances.

In 2013, shortly after becoming Pope, Francis visited Rome’s juvenile detention center at Casal del Marmo, where he washed the feet of young inmates and encouraged them not to lose hope. That encounter helped inspire the vision behind Pastificio Futuro: giving young people in the juvenile justice system the opportunity to learn a profession, work, and build a positive future.

When Pope Francis returned to Casal del Marmo in 2023, he met the young people involved in the project and received pasta they had produced.

His connection to Pastificio Futuro continued beyond his lifetime. After his death, it was revealed that Pope Francis had donated €200,000 of his personal money to support the project and its mission of giving young people a second chance through meaningful work.

Pastificio Futuro is, in many ways, a tangible expression of Pope Francis’ belief that hope becomes real when people are given the opportunity to create a better future.
